 Adirondack Pen
Adirondack Pens are water based pens with pigment coloring. In order to add enough pigment powder to make them nice and opaque, sometimes the powders absorb the water making the pens dry out before they are ever used. This is particularly true of colors that have yellow pigments in them like butterscotch, caramel, pesto, terra cotta, rust, lettuce and espresso. Those colors will almost always arrive dry. Ranger recommends the following:
1) fill a disposable cup with a small amount of water, just enough to cover the bottom
2) put the pen into the cup tip down
3) wait for the pen to wick the water (less than 30 minutes)
4) draw a long and continuous line until the pigment appears
We have found that the wicking process actually draws the pigment back up into the barrel of the pen so sometimes you need to draw with the pen for several seconds before you start to see pigment, especially if the pen was very dry.
